Net worth

Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. Add up assets such as cash, investments and property, then subtract debts such as loans, card balances and mortgages.

The result can be negative early on, which is common and not a sign of failure. Tracking it over time is far more useful than any single figure, because it shows whether your overall position is improving.
