Inflation

Inflation is the rate at which the general level of prices rises over time, so the same amount of money buys less than it did before. It is usually measured by tracking the cost of a representative basket of goods and services.

Modest inflation is normal in most economies, but the exact figures depend on where you live and on how that basket is defined. People tend to notice it most through the things they buy every week, such as food and transport.
