Minimum payment

The minimum payment is the smallest amount a credit account requires you to pay by the due date to keep the account in good standing. Paying only that keeps the account current but repays the balance very slowly, because most of it is swallowed by interest.

It is a floor, not a target. People who treat the minimum as a plan often stay in debt for years while barely reducing what they owe.
