Credit utilisation

Credit utilisation is the share of your available credit that you are actually using, found by dividing your outstanding balances by your total limits. If you hold several accounts, the figure is usually worked out across all of them together.

Lenders often consider it when assessing applications, but how much weight it carries and how it is measured vary between countries and lenders. It is worth checking, because it can shift quickly as balances rise and fall.
