Variable expenses

Variable expenses change from one period to the next. They include groceries, fuel, utility bills, clothing and entertainment, and they tend to respond to your choices, the season and prices.

Because they move around, they are the hardest part of a budget to predict and the easiest place to overspend. Tracking them for a couple of months is usually more useful than guessing.
