Budget

A budget is a plan for how you will use the money you expect to receive over a period, usually a month. It sets out income on one side and planned spending, saving and debt repayment on the other.

A budget is a decision tool rather than a restriction; it makes the trade-offs you are already making visible. The common mistake is building an elaborate plan that ignores real spending patterns, so it collapses in the first difficult month.
